Wild morning glory
Anya and I were picking apples from the farm today, and we happened across a wild morning glory:

Butterfly!
When Anya and I were harvesting corn today, we found a butterfly on the corn stalks. It seemed like it was drying its wings – slowly flapping as it basked in the sun.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly
I found this guy stuck in our greenhouse this morning. I let him walk onto a leaf and carried him outside — and he quickly flew away.
Wildfire Tracking Map

Dragon Chow
I calculated the “best deal” on dragon chow berries per fake gold coin in Anya’s DragonMania Legends game — I always tell her to get Clan Blue Hazel because you don’t need to keep “re-planting” them every couple of minutes, but the spikey cherries that grow in 30 seconds are actually the best “deal”.

First Firefly of 2023
I had been thinking it seemed like the fireflies were missing this summer — even searched the news and read an article about all of the things negatively impacting firefly populations (development, climate change, and light pollution). But I saw one on the greenhouse when I checked on the baby turkeys this morning. And, this evening, even though there’s a thunderstorm … we’re seeing little lights floating around the back yard.

There was so much haze today that the sun was a glowing pink disk this evening.
River Walk
We took an hour to check all the maple buckets before the sap run starts again — and paused to walk in the river, find cool rocks, and try skipping rocks.
First Robin of 2023
I saw the first robin today at 6:10 PM — he was sitting on a power line and singing a song.
